Costco Carnitas, Del Real Foods Pork Carnitas, 2 Pack

Costco sells this 2 pack of Carnitas for $13.99. Scroll down for photos. This is another one of those items that is great to keep in your back pocket for parties/birthdays/BBQ’s/etc. I’ve eaten this a few times & I found it to be tasty. I still prefer to throw my own pork shoulder butt in a slow cooker & do it myself, but this is really great if you’re lazy or in a pinch. I recently posted about the Costco Organic Kung Pao Chicken & it doesn’t seem to be very popular. The problem is that it also comes with rice, cashew & vegetables, so you’re paying for that too. This carnitas pack is ONLY carnitas, so you actually get 2 pounds 8 ounces of meat. That should be good enough to feed 6 – 10 people depending on the eaters. Here are a few more details about this Costco Carnitas…….

  • Brand: Del Real Foods
  • Slow Cooked Pork Carnitas
  • Handmade in Small Batch Kettles
  • Full Cooked / Keep Refrigerated
  • No Preservatives
  • 20 Grams of Protein Per Serving
  • 2 Separate Pouches
  • Ready in 7 minutes when using the microwave, I recommend the stove top

Costco Del Real Foods Pork Carnitas 2 Pack, 20 Ounces Each

Like I said before, this is a great go to for last minute meals. This would work GREAT for birthdays & summer BBQ’s. I recommend using the slow cooker to warm them if you have time. This way it will stay warm throughout the entire event. I’ve only ever used this to make tacos, but you can make sandwiches & salads as well. Instead of catering you can grab some Costco salsa, guacamole, chips, tortillas, refried beans & make some rice. You could probably feed 20 – 30 people for under $100. Plus everyone loves Mexican food! Now if you want to make your own with a slow cooker, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND these pre-made marinades/sauces. It’s literally set it & forget it. Check them out……

  1. Saw this at Costco earlier this week, so we decided to try it. I have to say these may not be the best I ever had, but I can’t remember ever having better carnitas. They we tasty, for sure, but never have I ever had more tender ones. They are fantastic!
The best part? We make one package, and my wife and I each got three meals from it. So I will divide the other package into thirds, vacuumed seal and freeze them.
I hesitate to post this, because every time we find some outstanding product at Costco, I is soon discontinued for whatever reason. PLEASE keep this in stock!!!

    1. HA! You’re so right. As soon as you get used to a product or find something you love….they take it right off the shelves! Hopefully this one is here to stay. Glad you enjoy it. Stock up and freeze them if you have room. Glad you enjoyed them and thanks for the comment

    1. It doesn’t say on the package, but I would have no problem freezing this and using it at a later date. To me, it’s no different than freezing my leftover turkey on Thanksgiving. Hope that helps

      1. We just had a pouch that had been frozen, for dinner last night. It’s edible and some may not notice, but I could definitely tell the meat fibers had been broken down some from freezing. Made it seem a little dry/gritty. Still better than letting it go to waste if you can’t use it in time. Maybe add some sauce if you do.

        1. Ya. My expectations are pretty low for the pre-made products like this. If you eat “fresh” carnitas all the time, I’m sure this won’t be great. We don’t eat it very often so it’s a nice treat for us every once in a while. Thanks for comment

  2. Thank you… Just needed to make sure because it is the only food anomoly during the prior several days. I do think maybe I failed to get the plastic pouch of “sauce” in to a hot enough temperature. The meat tasted fine, but the sauce was either “off” or not my favorite taste profile. Thanks for assuring me that others have not had this problem. I am doing fine. milka / Seeker

  3. Nope not at all – if it wasn’t stored correctly possibly you might have some reason to think the carnitas was responsible but there are a billion food (and non-food) related causes that could have been the culprit. Goodluck!

    1. Thanks for the comment Joe. There are many reasons one could get sick & it could possibly be the food but who knows. Hopefully they ended up figuring out what the issue was and didn’t suffer to much. Either way, this is a tasty product

  4. has anyone reported food poisoning after esting the Del Real Carnitas? i purcashed something like this in NC about 2 weeks ago. It tasted great but i am experiencing a quite severe attack of food poisoning / diahrrea / inflamation and pain. The only newpart of my diet was the Del Real Carnitas i ate over the past week, Tues Wed and Thur. Friday the full body inflamation and full body (and mostly abdominal) pain turned into explosive diahrrea on Sat morning. still dealing with it. not sure if it was caused by this oroduct but i am 72 and have never in my life had food poisoning until now. The only variable is the carnitas. Has anyone else reported a problem? I can deal with this and i vould be wrong about the source but you should know in case you meed to check your product that us being sold thru Costco in May/June 2021.

    1. No. I’m sorry to hear that. It is the first I have heard of that. Is there any chance it was left outside the refrigerator for a given amount of time? Those symptoms could be attributed to a lot of different issues & not just food poisoning. It sounds like you are very aware of what you are eating which is great! I’m not saying it wasn’t the Carnitas, but I haven’t heard anyone else complain about that. Did you toss the rest? or try it again?
