Costco Organic Turkey, Diestel American Heirloom w/ Giblets

Costco sells this Diestel Ranch Organic Heirloom Turkey for $3.99 / pound. Scroll down for photos. I was so excited to find this turkey early, because we always like to buy the organic turkeys. We’ve eaten this turkey from Diestel Ranch for several years now & it never disappoints. I know it is almost $3.00 / pound more than the Foster Farms Turkey, but it does taste better. Whether or not the cost is justified is up to you. My arguments is that it’s only once a year, so why not splurge on a turkey that’s going to feed a dozen or so people. I’ll end up brining the turkey for a day or so before cooking, so hopefully I’ll update this post with some good photos =). Costco also sold the non-organic version of this Turkey from Diestel Farms. Diestel Turkey Costco, Organic American Heirloom Young Turkey w/ Giblets

I spotted this on November 12th, which gives me about 2 weeks until Thanksgiving. The nice part was that it was still frozen, so I just brought it home & threw it in the freezer. I’ll pull it out several days in advance so I can brine it. If you’ve never tried an organic turkey I recommend it. I feel like it comes out more tender & juicer & it gives you a greater margin for error if you overcook it. This year I am going to give the Turkey Oven Bags a try. I’ve heard from several people who swear by them & they like how it cuts down on cooking time.
